Rules for Youth Leagues

GRADA has officially adopted the UPA 11th Edition Rules. You can check out the full rules on the UPA Website. Here is a link to some visual rules –  helplful schematic diagrams of how to apply the rules in specific situations.

Safety First!

  1. If you see any minor field hazards, cover them with a marker disc.
  2. If you see any serious field hazards, stop play and notify the coach, league coordinator or league director.
  3. Any player who has blood visible anywhere on his/her body or uniform must leave the field immediately – using injury sub rules – until appropriate bandaging or uniform change is completed.
  4. Please remove jewelry and sunglasses (unless prescription) before playing.
  5. ZERO TOLERANCE!  Any person found with contraband at the fields will be dismissed from the league.

Spirit Of The Game:  Ultimate relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect among competitors, adherence to the agreed upon rules, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate unsportsmanlike conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting opposing players, dangerous aggression, belligerent intimidation, intentional infractions, or other “win at all costs” behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players.

Games are played to 15 points or a hard time cap of 1 hour 15 minutes.  A hard time cap is the ending of the game once a predetermined time of play has elapsed and after the current scoring attempt is completed. If the score is tied, play continues until one additional goal is scored. Games started late must still end on time.  Arrive ½ hour prior to game time!

Games are played 7 on 7, unless there are only 6 players in which case 6’s may be played.  If a team cannot put 6 players on the line at the start time, the other team may assess 1 point for every 5 minutes that a team cannot field enough players.  The game may be forfeited and teams may play a pick up game if desired.

Co-ed ratio is 5:2. For Coed, please remember there is a firm requirement for teams to play 5:2 AT ALL TIMES.  If a team is short either men or women, they can still play, but they cannot exceed the gender limits on the field at any given time (e.g.-If a team has 8 men and 1 woman, they must play 5:1, but the other team still plays 5:2 if they have enough players). So in our case, a team could put no more than 5 boys on the line, period.  A hard and fast rule on this is really needed to eliminate any “negotiations” between coaches about how this is going to work.

Zone Defense is not allowed for the first few weeks in the B division. If you use a zone defense, you should be in the A division!
